"I am an author" Imagine saying that! It is an amazing feeling, knowing that I faced my fears, insecurities and persisted enough to get published.
Being a writer involves so many things, only one of which is writing. The many lessons I learnt along the way have been enlightening and humbling.
A personal favorite is knowing I have a tangible work to call my own!

Writing gives me clarity. I find it therapeutic.
I love seeing my written content exist in the public eye. I confess, I started small with posts. But it built up the confidence to eventually launch a book and face public opinion.
The joy of seeing your work published and receiving feedback is quite uplifting. Even if it is just a post or publication. It does feel terrifying initially, but regularly doing it dims those fears.

An interesting conversation with friends about how our virtual lives are mere snapshots frozen in that moment. Yet we consider them to be all-encompassing and representative of our entire lives and identities. It inspired a few posts on my blog and eventually a complete novel.

I have two fail-proof methods.
- Head over to Daily Prompt at Wordpress and pick a prompt. If I don't like the current one, choose another. I limit myself to five attempts, though. If I am still unsure; I just randomly choose one of the five I viewed. Set a timer for 20 minutes and start writing.
- For novels or fiction, [or even blog posts], I imagine what a character would do at a party. Again, set a timer for twenty minutes and start writing.
The point is to set a short timespan, a specific hook and just let the words flow. It won't be perfect but it will force me to think. And it will get me past that seemingly insurmountable hurdle of a blank page.
Bonus Tip: Join NaNoWriMo at least once. Regardless of how many words you write, the community of like-minded and sympathetic writers will feel empowering and reassuring. Also, every writing session comes with a ton of resources and techniques for every obstacle faced by writers of all genres. That alone is reason enough to be part of the community.
With many good wishes,
Keep writing and share your Story,

1. Just start writing.
Conquer your fears and simply begin.
Start a blog. Join one of the NaNoWriMo sessions. Attend an event for writers at your library or through Meetups. Join a writer's group : online or in real life.
But start. Show your work. Put it out there and receive feedback. I would recommend the above mentioned groups/ channels, because the members are in the sphere, and hence will be considerate and thoughtful.
Try your hand at different genres and styles. It will improve your thought process and perspectives, and maybe even reveal a new, never-before-considered format.
Make writing a regular habit. Set a timer if you must and plunge into your craft. Practice does make perfect!
2. Read, read, read.
Devour all sorts of books. Different genres, varied formats :plays, poetries, drama, epistolary, flash fiction, long-form and all styles: first person, third person, multiple perspectives- try to cover every angle. The more you read, the better your voice, narrative and flow will be.
3. Stay Motivated.
This is most important: Keep going, don't quit!
All the Best and Success!
