I read a lot. Usually, writer's block happens when I'm stressed about things going on in my personal life or things occurring outside of my control (I'm a bit of a control freak). When I take the time to indulge in reading, whether it's an old Tom Clancy book (I am SO in love with the Jack Ryan portrayal on Amazon Prime--though it's clearly set in modern times, I feel they nailed the Jack Ryan personality perfect), any of my many, many favorite Nora Roberts books, or discovering a new-to-me author, my brain takes a break from fretting about NOT writing. Within a day or two I'm ready to hit the keyboard again!

Believe in yourself and believe in your story. You have your own unique voice to tell your stories, and that is magical. Be open to constructive feedback--trust me, you never get your story right the first (or seventh or tenth) time around. But never lose faith! If you have the burning desire to put a story on paper, I promise you there are people out there with a burning desire to READ YOUR STORY!

My Texas Navy SEALs books are off and running. I'm so excited about telling the stories of Stryker, Phantom, Santo, Buzz, Snap, and Brusco. Stay tuned, because more SEALs will be joining the Texas family throughout the series. Currently, I'm working on a Novella that will be FREE about a special mission our Texas Navy SEALs tackle in Colombia. We're aiming to release it in November of this year (fingers crossed)! It's about a SEAL from Coronado, California named Jax who joins our Texas Navy SEALs for a mission that takes a very unexpected turn. ;-)

Everyday experiences inspire an idea that can evolve into a story. I love to "people watch" and I wonder about their lives--How did they get that scar? What has made them so happy? Where are they going and where have they been? Just thinking about these questions makes me create my imaginary spin on their experiences. Hearing stories about people's lives inspire me. Reading the news inspires me. I constantly say there are voices in my head (seriously, I can't get them to give me a moment of peace!) and I have to get their story on paper as fast as possible!

Great question! I'm a huge fan of the Military, especially Special Ops. My father went to Vietnam at the young age of 19 as a Private in the Army and within a handful of years became a Captain in the Rangers. His stories inspired my heroes. I've lived in Central and South Texas my entire life and love telling stories about this amazing state and honoring the diverse culture. Texas Navy SEALs pulled together two things I'm extremely passionate about, and I get to pull directly from real-world headlines for the suspense part. Stay tuned for the next book about Phantom--it uses my experience as a Quarter Horse Show Competitor to bring Phantom his true love.
