Pamela Schloesser Canepa Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing that. Now there is an answer! :)
Pamela Schloesser Canepa I am working on a book tentatively titled, "Malachi." it is based on a character in my most recent book, Undercurrents in Time. Malachi is a young man, a hired actor whose job it is to fool people and reveal the truth about them. All the while, he makes a life out of living several lies. His life is interesting, and some of us may identify with the identity switches he takes on as well as the self-exploration he undergoes.
Pamela Schloesser Canepa Thank you for asking! You can find me on Twitter at https://twitter.com/PamSCanepa1 where I post about my latest writing and publication news. Pamela Schloesser Canepa Thanks, Sue! It takes longer to write a full-length novel, and I've just recently been meeting beta readers and editors, so who knows how long I may take on the next book. This first full-length book of mine took 1 year and a half. My novellas did not take as long, but I didn't hire a professional editor like I did for the full-length novel. I plan to always do that now. Best of luck to you as well!
Pamela Schloesser Canepa Sometimes, all you have is the glimmer of an idea. Run with it. Write it down before it is lost. Soon, there will be flesh on the bones. Sometimes the different parts will jump into your head when you least expect. This probably goes against everything most writers advise about planning and outlining, but sometimes, it's the best way to let the inspiration flow. I am finding that I'll get a lovely lump of a story on paper, then have to reign it into line. What I am saying is that it's okay to start writing even if you don't know where it's going. You can figure that out later; just get your idea on paper before someone else does. There is no formula for inspiration, and that is where it all starts.
Pamela Schloesser Canepa I create worlds. The best thing about that is, I create worlds that I would love to visit. Then, I remember, I need to hook my reader, and build a conflict; well, life is full of conflict so it's easy to pull one from my hat, my own experience, the world, etc. So sometimes, I create a world that reflects my own. Characters are another creation, though sometimes they go in totally different directions than the path I had put them on. That is what makes this seem easier. They start to veer off the path and you realize, yeah, that could happen. Entertaining the what-ifs. That's what I love the most about this. It is why I've always been drawn in by stories of parallel universes!
Pamela Schloesser Canepa I go out and do something else. The beach is great, or a long walk with the dog. Ideas will then come to me when I least expect, and I'll scramble for a scrap of paper to scribble some notes. I've never used my cell phone yet, but that may be an idea.
Pamela Schloesser Canepa I get inspired by so many things, but what comes to mind first is the beauty of nature, a wondrous sunrise or a breezy beach day. After that, I would say, time away from work; it lets my mind get started on ideas!
