Finishing the "Shades of Magic" trilogy by V.E. Schwab, the Maze Runner books by James Dashner, and Katie Salidas's Chronicles of the Uprising series!
Oh, and the new Rick Riordan book. Can't forget about the demigods.

Stepping away and diving into some other media source gets my imagination fueling again. I'm the kind of guy who finds a story in an abstract photo or a song. It also helps to stick my characters in the hot seat and "interview" them as if we were talking face to face. I do that a lot on my blog, not just to generate ideas but also because it's a lot of fun!

Listening to music. Trying new things and seeing new places. Watching movies. Doing jigsaw puzzles. Drinking coffee. Reading and rereading my favorite books. Inspiration is everywhere :)

Write, write, write! Similarly, read, read, read! Cultivate things that inspire you, but don't wait for inspiration to come. Make lists of your favorite books, songs, TV characters, places, etc. Inspiration is everywhere. Don't wait for it. Create it. I also highly recommend falling into a good writing community or finding some honest, constructive critique partners with similar goals! If writing is in your heart, don't give it up.

Graduate school! The Carver is the product of two ingredients:
1) My Masters thesis on the Peter Pan Syndrome (the pop psychology term for a 30-something-year-old dude who still acts like he's 12) in Italian literature, which kept bringing me back to Pinocchio. Peter Pan AND Pinocchio in the same thesis? Cool!
2) The story of Michelangelo, who came in possession of a big slab of marble, told his friends that he saw a man trapped inside, and a few years later he had "freed" the Statue of David.
So I wondered, what if Pinocchio was a 30-something-year-old dude who loved to carve stuff just like his father, and he lived next door to a 30-something-year-old Peter Pan? And what if they both had sons? Thus, Chapter One of The Carver was born :)
