I'm so sorry about your daughter. I have one child, a daughter, and I can only imagine. Writing is cathartic. My hope is to work on the rewrite/edit of the draft of a novel I finished on Tuesday during the month of April. I am so hoping for warm enough weather to sit outside and write. But, I don't plan on joining NaNoWriMo for it. I did start this one, though in November's NaNoWriMo. Beta readers have it now. It is a fantasy about animals, very different for me.

Sorry Cathy, just seeing this. I wrote poetry in high school. When I came to the retirement phase of my life I told my husband I didn't know what I wanted to do. We were cleaning out the bookshelf and he found the poems I had written, and he said why don't you write. So, I started with blogging. Then I heard about NaNoWriMo and wrote my first book.

Who is the author of what?
J. Schlenker
Hi Marilyn, thanks for asking. Jessica is only in digital formats and paperback. Both are available for ordering through most booksellers. I don't know where you are located but if you should have a Kentucky library card you can check it out on Overdrive. Feel free to recommend it if it is not on Overdrive in your state. Or you can ask your library to carry the paperback.
So far, none of my books are in hardback. I am hoping the one I'm currently working on may be in hardback. When I was very young, I met someone born into slavery. I'm writing about her.
Thanks so much for asking. If you do decide to purchase and read, I look forward to hearing what you think about it. If you should belong to a book club, there are reader's discussion questions in the back.
Hope you have a great day!

No, but thanks, Toni, for thinking of me. I will look into it.

It's a photo of Sally at age 101. I'm working on the novel now. I hope to have it down mid spring or early summer.

Hi John, No, this picture is of a lady I met when I was 8. She is 101 in the picture. She was 103 when I met her. She was born in 1858 into slavery. I'm currently writing a fictional novel based on her. This is my proposed book cover.
Thanks for asking.

I was given good advice that your cover photo should be of you, but for now I want it to be of Sally. This is my work in progress. Although it will be fictional, it is based on the life of a woman I met only briefly when I was eight. It was 1961. She was 103. She was born into slavery in the area in which I've lived most all of my life. When I started this writing endeavor, the subject of Sally was what came to my mind. I researched Sally for nearly three years, but went on to other things. How could I really tell her story, when all the accounts I got were confusing? This year I am finally attempting it. Fiction is the only way as I cannot truly know her life. I hope to have it finished by late spring or early summer.

I'm a novice at this. Work on a novel during NaNoWriMo. That's how I started. Only the first one got a couple of badges. The second one is about art and my favorite artist, Van Gogh. I'm thinking books are like your children or paintings. You love them in different ways.

Currently working on "The Color of Cold and Ice". Should be out in one to two weeks.
If anyone would like a copy to review, please contact me.
Blurb: Sybil has dreams; the prophetic kind, although interpreting them correctly is another matter. Her latest dream involves her sister Emerald, who wants to pursue her art once more and move on with her life after losing her husband. John, once felt he was making a difference as an ER doctor, but finds himself slipping away in his Manhattan practice as well as in his marriage. Allison, John’s wife wants to change her ho hum existence with John into something spectacular. Mark, Allison’s brother, a struggling musician, wants to quit rambling in life and find his purpose.
The cold changes everything.

Yes, sort of always nervous about this stuff. You're putting yourself out there. But, I think it's getting better. It was so cool when I held the actual book in my hands.
I saw where you do woodworking. I was a weaver and did the show circuit. That was a also putting yourself out there for jurors of the shows and for the public.

Hi Daniel! You're welcome, and thanks. Right now I'm working towards publishing my second book, "The Color of Cold and Ice." It is currently with the editor. And how is your writing coming?
I use the name Daniel as one of the main characters in another one I'm working on. Daniel is Scottish, but the story takes place in France.

"Jessica Lost Her Wobble" is about a middle-aged woman who moves to an island to contemplate her life. That is my only published work.
I'm working on two more books, "The Innkeeper on the Edge," a woman moves to France, encounters a ghost, has a past life regression, and meets her future husband, and "The Color of Cold and Ice," about color, Van Gogh, and the cold as seen through two families coming together. And, I have a number of short stories I'm working on. Most of them tend to be comedy.

All three books sound interesting and unique. I really like your titles; they make me want to learn more about the stories.

I was actually born in Ashland, but don't live far from there. Worked there for many years. I'm still trying to learn to navigate Goodreads. Only really started using it since publishing. What part of Kentucky?

Oh! I fell in love with Michael Talbot's writing reading The Delicate Dependency. I thought the idea behind the Holographic Universe sounded interesting, so I read a small part of it...not very much. One day I will finish it. I'm originally from Flatwoods. My sister and family live in Ashland, so I rent an apartment there when I go visit. My other siblings live in Russell.

Jessica Lost Her Wobble, (Kindle version free through tomorrow on Amazon), came from a past life regression. That is, the general idea came from that. I kept certain things from the past life regression, but advanced the time by about fifteen years into the future, roughly 1960, although the character reflects back to her childhood until the time of 1960. Jessica Lost Her Wobble is also listed as a Goodread's Giveaway until Valentine's Day.
