The rest of the Lord of The Rings trilogy, the rest of the Harry Potter series, and lots of gardening and homesteading books. I plan to spend this summer reading in the shade of a favorite tree (when I'm not working on the homestead.)

(view spoiler)[My most recent book Nova Wave, the one that is coming out on October 26th, 2018 is a continuation of the story started in Bone Sliver. The inspiration for that series came to me nearly 30 years ago. It has changed a lot over the years, but you could say that it came from some bizarre things that I ended up looking into as a teenager.
I have always had an interest in the paranormal and the occult, I guess, and I wanted to have a team looking into anomalies. I lost the idea for a while, and I think it sat on Chris Carter's shoulder for a while because he created The X Files. After I got over being mad about that, (but extremely impressed with the show) I realized that Max and Ellen's stories were very different from Mulder and Scully's and that not only had the idea grown up, but I had too.
When I got serious about writing it, I found that I didn't know who Max and Ellen were anymore. We'd grown up separately. I had to coax them to tell me their stories. Then I was hit by another revelation, not only had they changed over the few decades, their entire world had changed. I'm still finding surprises around every corner, and I love it. (hide spoiler)]

The best thing about being a writer is that it allows you to be so much more than just a writer. You're not just some sentient machine glued to the keyboard. Publishing, seeing the work in print that is all wonderful, but living life in a wonder-filled creative way -- exploring, playing, trying new things-- that is the golden part of being a writer or doing any form of creative work.

Keep plugging away. A certain amount of stubbornness is essential for a writer, and the only real way to get better is to keep reading, writing, and allowing your work to be read. All three of those things are essential. Never stop working to get better, and work to overcome any sensitivity to constructive criticism.

I find inspiration all over the place. Nature, news, interactions with people, other books, and stories. Sometimes I even find story ideas on social media.

I'm getting ready for a double book release on October 26th, and just drew up the outline for book 3 of The Nova Wave series. I'm also drafting another book that is not part of the series, but it's pretty hush-hush for now.

I don't really believe in writer's block, but if I do get feeling really stuck, I do something else for a while. The issue will brew in the back of my mind while I do other things, and often the answer will come to me. If there is a time limit involved, I will write around it. If I write around it, the writing itself usually brings me a solution to whatever problem I'm struggling with.
