I heard this advice awhile ago and, in some sense, it's true: if you write only when you're inspired to write, you won't write very much.
However, there are some things I do to help bring me into the world of story when I'm not "in the mood."
Music. There's pretty much a soundtrack for every book I've ever worked on. It carries the themes of the story and the feel. For example, my first book was finished with the "Braveheart" soundtrack.
Reading. Certain books have influenced or inspired my writing in the past, so if I'm really not feeling it, I take a dose of another author's work to get me back in the mood.

I got the idea for The Artist and the Clay when I was trying to figure out what to do with my life. It was a long struggle and a lot of prayer and, ultimately, God gave me the verses about the Potter and the clay, and about the Body of Christ. In essence, He said, "I make people for all sorts of different purposes, that's why they're not all the same." That really comforted me and helped me decide that I wasn't faulty and I could use my talents for God. I was so happy I wanted to pass the story along to my brothers and sisters. I thought, "How would I communicate this?" and came up with this story.

I'm currently working on publicity and figuring out how to sell my first book, The Artist and the Clay. Along with that, there are several projects I'm working on with my husband, animated and game projects that I'm helping do the writing for. :)

I always give this advice to aspiring writers: read, a lot! Notice what you like about what you read. Also, write a lot! I wrote about 5 books before I started to think what I wrote was decent, and I think I was right! You develop your style after walking through a thousand pages. Your first stuff can be brilliant, don't delete it! But you'll be a lot smoother and know a lot more after those thousand pages. :)
