A (rare) random flash of inspiration I think. Originally Granddad was going to have a generic "magic sword" of some sort but I really didn't want Trev going around stabbing people as it didn't fit the humorous tone I was going for! So I tried to come up with a weapon that could be powerful but also non-lethal if required, and the idea of a "ghost sword" came to me...
Nick Moseley
Oh yes, they'll be back. Granddad's been doing a good job of keeping Trev away from them after the... uh... diplomatic incident in Location, Location, Damnation, but they're bound to run into each other sooner or later!

Hi Reebs!
Thanks for getting in touch.
I'm getting close to finishing book four so hopefully there'll be something to sate your needs in the not-too-distant future... ;-)

Hi Graeme! The first draft of Brackenford Cycle #4, "Grindhelm's Key", is a little under halfway finished. 2017 hasn't been a good writing year for me (for many reasons) but I'm hopeful that 2018 will be an improvement.
I wouldn't like to predict a release date at this stage because I don't want to have to backtrack on it later... so I'll just say "during 2018".

The answer's (kind of) in the question - Jasper Fforde's Bookworld. Because that would then give access to all the other book worlds.

Hello Ed! Brackenford exists solely in the (mostly empty) six inches between my ears. :) In the books it's just described as being "in the Midlands" - I left it pretty vague.
It's based on the various riverside towns of Worcestershire, where I live - places like Evesham, Bewdley, Stourport-on-Severn, and of course Worcester itself (my home town).
When I first started writing the series, I drew a rough map of Brackenford on the back of an envelope. I intended to re-draw it on some nice paper at a later stage, but eight years on I'm still using the envelope...

I didn't! Thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to go and dig myself a burrow in the back garden to get into the spirit of World Wombat Day... ;)
L.J. Hayward
Yeah, not really sure what the official WWD activity is. Burrowing sounds good, though.

Hi L.J.!
At the moment "Location, Location, Damnation" is only on Kindle as I'm using KDP Select. However I'm certainly not ruling out testing the waters with other formats at some point - probably after I've finished the first draft of "Spectre's Rest" (the third book) and have a little more time on my hands! If you don't have a Kindle e-reader you could get the Kindle app, which is free and works on smartphone/tablet/PC.
I believe there are three species of wombat, though don't ask me to name them. I think one of them is called Gary.

Or is "Gary" the English version of "gariculus"? ;)

As long as you bring pizza. And you're not frightened of wombats. ;)

I sit and stare at a blank Word document until I begin to hallucinate.
As a result, purple talking wombats feature quite heavily in my work.

I punch my ghost-writer and ask him what the hell he thinks he's playing at, the idle oaf.
