Gilda Morina Syverson My Father's Daughter, From Rome to Sicily came about by taking a trip to Italy with my parents and husband, and when I returned home it was ALL I could think about. So I just wrote about it, sometimes in prose, other times in poetry. The idea found me and I listened to it wanting to be birthed.
Gilda Morina Syverson I am working on another memoir about energy work and how it came through my matriarchal lineage.
Gilda Morina Syverson Write! I have met people who say they want to write, but they don't write. And if they don't know where to begin, then I encourage them to take a class or workshop and be with other writers.
Gilda Morina Syverson I can take what is in my head and put it down on paper to deal with in what I think is making art out of life.
Gilda Morina Syverson I am an obsessive journal person. I write my dreams, thoughts that meander through my head, ideas that emerge, anything that surfaces. More than writer's block, I find I am begging for time to write in between other commitments, especially since My Father's Daughter has come out. But if I ever do have a hint of a writer's block, I pick up a piece of writing and spend time editing. I am also an obsessive editor, and editing always leads me back into the writing.
Gilda Morina Syverson I feel like I'm jumping way back, but the very first couple that came to mind was Romeo and Juliet. I suppose it's because my husband Stu and I (Stu is one of the characters in my memoir, My Father's Daughter, From Rome to Sicily) have a real love relationship, just like my Nonna Egidia and Nonno Francesco did in my story and in real life. Funny, when I talk about them in my book, I refer to the Montagues and Capulets. Actually I hadn't thought of my book at all when Romeo and Juliet popped into my head. Wonderful that your question sent me into that thought process. Thank you for asking.
