Alanna was born in the wrong decade and dreams of abandoning everything to live in a van and travel across Canada. She’ll call it "a book tour," but it’s really an excuse to unleash her inner hippie. A collector of typewriters and John Travolta VHS movies, she believes life is too short to not indulge in the things that bring you joy and in keeping with that philosophy, she left a stuffy office job of 18 years to launch a full-time indie press out of a chicken coop on her childhood property. An author of literary and speculative fiction, Alanna likes to play in dark spaces, but always leaves room for redemption. I would like you to think I am very intentional with my writing - but the truth is, the themes that came out in this book were not on purpose at all. When I started writing Wildwood, I actually believed I was sitting down to write a thriller. How wrong I was! (And I am so glad I didn't end up with the campy horror creep-in-the-woods-collecting-girls-in-a-shed/church version - can you imagine?!) It sounds a little cliché to say I let the book write itself, but by not overthinking as I let the story unfold, themes started to pop up. Of course it is informed by my own core values and to say I left nothing of myself on the would not be true - but there is a very magical thing that happens when you trust the narrative to take you where it should go.(less)

It is still in the works but I have a deadline in place so I'm working hard at making it. To say this book has been a journey is to put it lightly. It's so good to know people are eager for it! 5 Reasons Jon Bon Jovi Would Love “When The Trees All Burned”

Or: Why the King of Stadium Anthems Would Totally Dig This Apocalypse Novel

Look, I know what you’re thinking. “Why are we talking about Jon Bon Jovi and apocalypse fiction in the same breath?” But hear me out—after spending years crafting When The Trees All Burned, I can’t shake the feeling that the man who gave us decades of anthems about hope, survival, and sticking together would absolute

“He is a blind man and I am his book of braille. His breath against my collarbone raises goosebumps on my arm as I let him read my story.”
Alanna Rusnak, Kissing Johnny

“Joy. In every breath. In every moment. In every turn of the blossom to face the sun. In every stream of juice that trails my chin from fruit so sweet. In Him. In the coolness of the evening when He walks beside us and His laughter lifts across the river as He delights in our wonder over this place He has given us. In silence. In starlight. In shouting an anthem of gladness that shakes the earth and hails birds into flight.”
Alanna Rusnak, Eve Undone

“We're all just wandering around with our fingers crossed, hoping we'll meet someone who will make our lostness a little less lonely.”
Alanna Rusnak, The Church in the Wildwood

“People swindle themselves out of Salvation with great regularity.”
Anne Rice, Angel Time

“So this, I believe, is the central question upon which all creative living hinges: Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

“Ah, what broken creatures we are, and how we endure.”
