Communal Tensions in Mangalore

Diary Entry. Nothing official about it.

This year in February, I went along with my wife to a small trip to Karnataka for some stress-bustin’. Our stops included Mangalore, Udupi, Murudeshwar and Gokarna. Now the air over the past few months has turned heavier than before or so my short-term memory serves. Topics that involve Hindu-Muslim conflict have started dominating the News cycles and it is i

There were so many places in the book where I had to pause and think, "Wait, what was the point of this anecdote?" This book could have been an email.
I am not saying it's a bad book. I am saying it's not a book at all. It's a blog that someone chose

Abhyudaya Shrivastava and 1 other person liked Mk's review of Buckeye:
Buckeye by Patrick Ryan
"Got me out of a terrible reading slump!
Brilliant writing- so many layers but never got preachy. And even with troubled protagonist’s they weren’t unlikable at all! "
Abhyudaya Shrivastava is on page 10 of 348 of The Enclave: The language is very pretentious. I would not say it is unbearable though. It is just making the reading difficult, sort of like a barrier to get through. This is exactly why a writer should not let his ego get in the way of his writing. If I knew someone who wrote like this, I would be worried they will lose their marbles as their age advances.

Simple Passion by Annie Ernaux
"My first Ernaux!

I want to read everything written by her, preferably multiple times.
I know I'll be returning to this one time and again.

Here's a longer review:

I read this book twenty days ago and I still keep thinking about it. I find myself wanting" Read more of this review »

While reading this novel, I was acutely aware of the pertinence of this work of literature. It is a politically charged novel written as a sharp commentary on the era of Emergency and the society of those times. It is written with a sense of purpose. ...more
