Jessica Hi Simone! I really enjoy your books. I like when authors are authentic with their characters and have them say what is appropriate for the time in which they are living. I didn't find the use of language offensive nor distracting and it wasn't over done in the least. Please keep up the great writing! Looking forward to your next book.

Simone James Thank you! I'm glad you like the books! :)

Carolyn Thank you for your reply. I appreciate what you are saying, but I still disagree with the theory that swearing = authentic. There are plenty of authentic people who don't swear, even in the most emotional of moments, just as there are those who do. I have to disagree that the "time in which we are living" dictates our language. I also agree that it wasn't overdone, but it was done enough to cause disappointment (just because we generally expect your books to be free of this, not because you promised clean reading). I just really wish authors didn't always feel that this is the only way to allow authenticity. There are other things that reveal authenticity. I'm married to one of the most opinionated, authentic people I've ever known, and he never swears. Some people do it as a habit, just as others don't, and we just wanted to put in a request for future books without this type of language. Believe me, it's a compliment of the highest regard when we say that your stories carry themselves powerfully and convincingly without needing any character to be authentic. :-) We will have to just enjoy your other books instead! :)

Anne-Marie Eberhardt The language was a non issue to me and I thought added authenticity to the characters and the story.

Reyna Favis As a writer, I agree with your choice of vocabulary. To not use the F word for this character under these circumstances would have rang false to me.

Kiki I absolutely agree with redhead_reader_18. In fact, The Broken Girls made a St. James fan outta me. Looking through the author's bibliography, I noticed that most of Ms St. James books are historical where the characters are less likely to use modern swear words. Maybe that is what threw Carolyn off? I can't wait to dive into your past works, Ms. St. James, and am very much looking forward to anything you publish in the future!

Blair While it is true not everyone curses, it is authentic to the characters in the book. I think the book was great!

Sara Rhodes I think you are missing out if you skip reading this one because of the language. It's an awesome story told by an awesome author!! I love all of your books!
