I actually got to meet the author of Code Name Verity and asked her if she ever meant for Maddie and Julie to come across as romantically involved. She told me that it did cross her mind but, thought that it added a different element to the book that was not required. Then she said that this was up to the reader's imagination to decide. I thought you would find this interesting. . . I certainly did!
