Yes, I thought that too, 'gran' would have been awfully young, and that was never discussed.
I want to say she was late 50's, maybe early 60's. She has Molly's mom at 17, and not sure when Molly's mom had Molly, but definitely I would assume in her 20s and Molly is 25. But she talks like she is a British woman in her 80's. That really threw me off.
Kate I missed that!!!! I'm just not sure those numbers work correctly. Molly's mom would have to be 35 when she had her----and it was insinuated Molly's mom died young because of the drugs.
This book had several problems.... this is just one of them. It could have benefited from better editing.
It would definitely make sense that Gran was in her 60s, but the novel makes her sound like she's in her mid to late 70s. Weird
It's a complete plot hole really. If Gran was 75 when she died and Molly was 24 (since she is remembering it during the book and she's 25 in the book) that would mean "Gran" was 60 when Molly was born. If Gran had Molly's mom when she was 17 then Molly's mom would have been 43 when she had Molly. Not sure how this was missed in revisions and editing of this book!
Also your math is wrong. If gran was 75 when Molly was 24 or 25 then she would’ve been 50 or 51 when molly was born, not 60. Putting the mom closer to 33/34 when she had molly.
her mom seems to be a teenager runaway struggling with drugs and toxic relationships, it's definitely not the best setup to make her gran 75. one more reason I don't like this book lol
There is a quote in the book about going to Olive Garden for Grans 75th birthday, they had Chardonnay, that’s where Rodney takes Molly on their ‘date’
James, I think the author intended for him to be the "clever twist" grandfather ----but the numbers don't work out. IMO
I still say the story he told was true, & the numbers do work out, so just accept it! They lived in the same town all their lives & he just remained Gran's friend & watched over Molly.
