Your empathic response touched me. This man didn't "sign up" for this family yet he remained committed. These painful things can happen in life which are the result of our behaviors interfacing with unforeseen circumstances. Yet the behavior was not intentional. Then we do the best we can do in the circumstances. That was my favorite part of this book, how it illustrates the unexpected challenges in life even when we are trying our best to be a good person. Such empathy.
