Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) Exactly. It is just very unpleasant, and feeding this to kids as "amusing" or "funny" is horrible.

You're "sure" children will think it's funny? I'm 13 and when I first read the books, trust me, I knew it wasn't funny...

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) I don't know...I'm in Europe, though I was raised in America. I found it very unfunny, very unentertaining, and to make it worse, it droned on and on and on without really getting anywhere. Nothing ever seemed to resolve itself. But what I meant was, if the author wants to programme kids to learn to find this sort of thing funny...I shudder for the future.

Sean How very sad. How very grown up. How very dismal.

Joelle These books are not supposed to be funny. If you read the back it says "If you are looking for a funny book this book is not for you!". The whole point of the series is that Count Olaf is evil and just after their money. I'm 12 and I started this series last year. I knew he wasn't being funny. He was abusing the kids and it actually bugs me how mr. Poe never believes them!! I hate him.
