Road Away from God Quotes Showing 1-2 of 2
“Make no mistake: God was present with you in the naive safety you had in the place that you came from. But God was also present in the restlessness that stirred you to leave, and he is present with you in the wild now.”
Jonathan Martin, The Road Away from God: How Love Finds Us Even as We Walk Away
“No one is morally “worthy” of the body and blood of Christ, so no one is unworthy to come to his feast! But Paul writes that we can come “in an unworthy manner” (1 Cor. 11:27). His critique of the Corinthians was not that they were unworthy people but that they came to the table in an unworthy way—turning the table of unity into a table of division. If the church underwrites the class divisions of the world, the Founder of the church will judge us, for that is coming in an unworthy manner. That said, coming to the table is intended to be in and of itself an act of repentance: if you are humble and hungry, you are eligible. The table brings healing, hope, and cleansing. The invitation to the table—as John Wesley rightly understood—can and should be synonymous with the invitation to salvation!”
