“Warren’s Aunt Jeanette grew up as the oldest of four children in New York City. Their father died when they were quite young, and the family struggled to meet basic needs. Aunt Jeanette was supposed to pay a fee for the confirmation class at their local church. The family didn’t have the funds. Aunt Jeanette remembers the shame of that experience as the church leaders put on pressure for them to pay or she would not be included in the class. Meanwhile, a Jewish rabbi lived nearby.
