“Has anyone ever told you that you’re hot as a giant lizard?”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“You know telling someone not to worry is like telling the sun not to shine, don’t you?” she prodded. “It’s just going to keep shining anyway, because that’s what it does.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“It’s not smart to piss off a dragon.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“I used to think fate was a cruel as dragon-shifters, but now..."
"Now?"
"Now I think fate set me on a path to you."
"I've loved you since the moment you stole my car.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“He was a big, bad dragon shifter, a breed of male she realized took Neanderthal to a whole new level.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“I’d trust him with my life… unless a decision came down to my life or his.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“You look like shit.” His lips pulled back in what she guessed was supposed to be a smile. “How very… American.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Another phoenix. Impossible.
On the heels of that realization came another.
Mimicking her posture, he crossed his arms and smiled back. "You shouldn't have revealed your presence to me, little firebird.
Narrowed eyes shot sparks at him. "And why not?" she challenged.
"Because now you're mine.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“That's sweet and all, but we can't hold this bastard down much longer," Wyot, one of the dragons on top of Uther, grumbled.
Brand lifted his head and grinned, "Shall we kill a king, my queen?"
She laughed, pure joy erupting from the blackness that had consumed her. "By all means.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“What? No unicorns? Maybe a leprechaun or two?”

You have to catch one first,” Brand deadpanned.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Do you have a thing against knights?”

“Pretty boys who run around slaying dragons to save the fair maiden?” He let the sarcasm dangle for a moment. “Nah. I’m just not one.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Are you going to eat me?” she asked.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“You want another go, you oversized flying iguana?”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“This doesn’t seem like a great time to stop for a daydream, reptile boy.” Her voice drifted through the brush. “Which way?” How many euphemisms for “dragon” could she come up with?”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Legend held that the man who captured a phoenix would be blessed. Unable to put a foot wrong. Every choice the right one. Every action leading to greater fortune. Except legend had it wrong. The man had to capture the phoenix’s heart.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King

“Then she gasped as he lunged for her. Only he didn’t pounce or bite. Instead, he snaked over to her and rubbed his snout against her side. “Whoa!” she said as the animal he turned into—still out of control, still driven entirely by elemental needs—communicated his concern and anger through physical touch that she’d put herself in danger. Something Brand had held himself back from doing when in human form, able to apply logic. “Um? What’s going on?” Clearly having a massive, horned creature snuggle Kasia up was a disconcerting experience.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“A peculiar sense of…safety…slid through her. A treacherous idea to entertain. I shouldn’t trust this. Despite that logical thought, tense muscles she hadn’t even realized she was clenching released, loosening up, and she grinned. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re hot as a giant lizard? And I don’t mean because of the fire.” He snorted, though she wasn’t sure if the sound indicated a laugh or derision. “Dragon.” His voice boomed, echoing inside her head, and Kasia slapped her hands over her ears in a futile attempt to make it stop. “That’s right, you’re telepathic now,” she muttered more to herself. A handful of centuries learning dragon facts had not prepared her for the up close and personal encounter. “Only when I’m in this form.” She cringed as the sound of his voice sent splinters of pain through her head. “Yeah. I know. Turn down the volume, raptor boy.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Dragon shifters from other clans would be worse than wolves if they found us. I can fight off wolves—even a pack. At least one that small.” She ignored his subtle jab about the pack. Harder to ignore how his mouth kicked up at the corner in a barely-there smile. Did he think he’d just won a point? Silly dragon.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Ladon stepped into her path.
With a sneer, she ran her gaze over him, sizing him up. Then she lifted a single eyebrow, obviously having found him wanting.
Ladon shoved aside the irritation that unusual reaction drew from him. "You're not going near her."
She crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed.
"You're not going to stop me."
"Who the hell are you?" He didn't like repeating himself.
Skylar smiled, those fantasy-inducing lips tipping up in a grim delight. "I'm Kasia's sister.”
Abigail Owen, The Rogue King
“Nervous? He grinned.

“A little. I have my virtue to consider.” She gave a little wiggle.”
