“You’re still not fearing my mighty wrath.”
“I’m trying.”
“One day I will unleash it and you will flee in terror. Why are you laughing? It’s only the truth. A sphinx in full-on berserker-mode can wreak major destruction and instill fear into the hearts of all who… stop laughing!”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Don’t beat yourself up about being a nut job. Facebook’s made stalkers out of us all.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Dolphins are seriously twisted, you know.”
“Dolphins are twisted?”
“They’re the only predators that kill their young for fun. And the males are rather fond of gang rape. Oh, they might look cute and seem charming, but that innocent exterior is quite an act. They’re like the sea-world’s version of Ted Bundy.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Just because you’re, like, super powerful doesn’t mean people shouldn’t defend you.” But he was looking at her like she was a cute harmless little bunny that was obviously on drugs. She sighed. “You’re still not fearing my mighty wrath.” “I’m trying.” “One day I will unleash it and you will flee in terror. Why are you laughing? It’s only the truth. A sphinx in full-on berserker-mode can wreak major destruction and instill fear into the hearts of all who… stop laughing!”

“To brood.” Her tone dared him to deny it.
“I had a lot of calls to make.”
Ha. “You were brooding.”
“I was trying to find out if there was a spell that could teleport people into secure places.”
“You were brooding.”
“No one was able to help with that.”
“So the brooding continued.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Am I forgiven yet?” he asked, kissing her back. She snorted. “That wasn’t you making it up to me. That was you using orgasms to soften me up so I’d more easily forgive you. Sometimes I wonder how you live with yourself.” He”

“You know… I sometimes look at how well-organized, precise, and fearless Khloë can be and think, ‘Wow, she’d make an excellent army general.’ But then I remember it would only be a matter of time before she’d be shot by her own troops.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“That’s just what it means to love someone. They can hurt you worse than anyone, but they can also make you happier than another person ever could.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“You’re not even his type,” spat Alethea. “For that matter, he’s not your type either. You prefer humans. In fact, Knox is the first demon you ever slept with. Before him, you were with the guy whose family owns the café over there.”
Harper raised her brows. The dolphin had been doing her homework.
Devon looked at Harper. “I’ve always said that a crazy ex can do better research than law enforcement.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Want to know what else I heard you did at the bar?”
“I don’t think I do.”
“You used your red lipstick to scribble ‘Alethea is a skanky hoe’ on the bathroom mirror.”
In her opinion, truer words had never been spoken – well, scribbled. Her demon agreed.
“You almost yacked in the Bentley.”
Oh, God. She squeezed her eyes tightly shut. “Stop.”
“We had to pull over so you could vomit in a bush.”
“Stop.”
“Then you got back in the car and said, ‘Taco Bell, anyone?’”
“Stop.”
Knox chuckled. “But I haven’t told you what you did when you got home yet.”
She buried her face deeper into the pillow. “I don’t want to hear it.”
He spoke into her ear. “You told me you love me, you’d always love me, and that you even love my demon… which would have been really sweet if you weren’t bent over the toilet with vomit in your hair.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Knox squeezed his mate’s nape. “Up, baby. Time to go.”
Harper stood upright, smiling at him. “You’re adorable.”
“And you’re wasted,” he said, amused. No one ever had, or ever again would, call him adorable.
She frowned. “Wasted?”
“Completely wasted,” Knox insisted.
“I’m not,” she objected, affronted.
Knox just smiled. “Yes, baby, you are.”
“If I was wasted, I wouldn’t be able to put on my jacket.”
Knox watched as she struggled to put it on. Honestly, it was painful to watch. “Give me the jacket.”
“Okay.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Another day. I’m tired.” Harper wasn’t the type of girl who could shop until she dropped. She was more of a “shop until you feel like punching random people for doing nothing more than bumping you with their bags” girl. “Time to eat.” As”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“So, does taking me to dinner have anything to do with you wanting to make sure I was okay after the dolphin paid me a visit?"

"Must we refer to her as 'the dolphin'?" he asked; it made him feel like he'd partaken in bestiality or something.

"We? No. Me? Yes.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“We had to pull over so you could vomit in a bush.” “Stop.” “Then you got back in the car and said, ‘Taco Bell, anyone?”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Well, fuckadoodledoo.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Knox spoke, menace in every syllable. “If we ever have a child and someone comes for it, they’ll suffer so horribly they’ll beg for death.” Only that reprieve wouldn’t come until Knox was ready to give it to them, which could very well be never. His parents hadn’t protected him when he’d needed it. He’d be damned if he failed his child the way they failed him.
“Can I watch you torture them?”
His mouth curved. “Bloodthirsty little thing.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“He took an aggressive step toward her. “I don’t need you to protect me. I don’t want you to protect me. I want you to live.”
“Do I look like a fucking apparition to you? I am alive, asshole! And if you don’t want me to protect you, ask me if I give a shit! I’m your mate! That’s what mates do! And protecting the people I care about is who I am!”
“And that protective streak makes you reckless,” he snapped.
“Says the person who called on the flames of fucking hell and destroyed a house of dark practitioners to protect their mate! Yeah, you don’t get to judge me on this one, Thorne.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“So it Goes’ from Slaughterhouse Five to remind myself not to dwell on anything I can’t control – bad shit happens; it’s part of life.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“I sure do like this sculpture.”
Jolene smiled at the newcomer. “Well, hello, Lou.”
The Devil sent her a narrow-eyed look. “Hello, vile woman.”
“You buttoned up your shirt wrong,” Jolene told him.
“What?” he squeaked, peeking down at the shirt. Realizing she was kidding, he flattened his lips. “See, vile.”
Jolene rolled her eyes. “Let it go, Lou.”
Sensing there was more to this than the shirt comment, Harper asked, “Let what go? What did you do, Grams?”
Jolene tipped her chin at Lou. “He was in a bad mood, so thought I’d take him to a nice, calming atmosphere to cheer him up. Only there is no cheering him up.”
Harper wasn’t buying that innocent act for a single second. “Where did you take him?”
“To a poetry recital.”
Lou’s face hardened. “The words hardly ever rhymed! How is that poetry?” And it clearly drove his OCD streak crazy.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“You’ll be fine.”
“Okay, but don’t let go.”
“Tuck your legs up to your stomach.”
She frowned. “Why?”
“Do it.”
So she did, and then she was squealing because he made her do a forward flip. But she wasn’t angry. In fact, she was laughing. Her demon was having the time of its life, what with all the adrenalin pumping around Harper’s system.
“Baby, look.”
“What?” That was when she realized he’d let go of her hand. And, of course, she dropped like a lead weight. Cursing, she slowed her descent and came to a sharp halt in the air. She scowled at her mate as he flew in circles around her. “I should have known you’d let go.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Letting her feet touch the ground, she bore down on him. “You insane motherfucker! I could have died on impact!” Before she could smack the bastard, flames roared around him, pyroporting him away.
“But you didn’t,” he said from behind her, a smile in his voice.
She whirled on him. “Sheer luck saved me!”
“Technique and muscle memory saved you,” Knox corrected. “You came to a perfect stop. Well done, baby.” She’d done better than he’d expected.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“Okay, drop.” He nodded in satisfaction at her clean descent. “Again, Harper.”
Biting back a curse, she did it again. And again. And again. And a-fucking-gain.
“Better. Much better. Now, do it once more. This time, I’m going to ask you to go higher and hold it a lot longer.” When she slumped, Knox arched a brow. “Do you want to try flying or not? We’ll do it today, but only if you master this move.”
Harper rolled back her shoulders. “I’ll do it,” she bit out. She wanted to punch him square in the face for grinning at her. “What’s so funny?”
“I’m not laughing.”
“Not out loud.”
“You’re just cute when you’re agitated.” She was back to being a hissing, spitting kitten that amused the hell out of Knox and his demon.”
Suzanne Wright, Blaze
“No. Knox got to his feet. I’ll go get her myself. He quickly ended the business call, uncaring that he’d been rude. Opening his office door, Knox indicated for Levi to follow him. “Tanner just contacted me,” said Knox. “Apparently Harper —” He cut off as a she-demon rounded the corner and came to a halt in front of him.
Belinda smiled. “Oh, Knox, I was hoping to catch you.”
For fuck’s sake. “What can I do for you, Miss Thacker?”
Her smile dimmed at his impatient tone. “It’s about the appetizers for the event.”
“I told you I want Harper to decide these things.”
Belinda’s mouth flattened. “She doesn’t find any of my suggestions suitable.”
“Then they’re not suitable.” Simple.
“Knox —”
“Miss Thacker, I didn’t invite you to call me by my first name.” Her cheeks reddened. “I gave you my orders when I hired you. They were not complicated. I specified all the details of the event that I wished to be left for Harper to decide.”
“She wants steak and potato wedges on sticks!” Belinda took a deep breath and lowered her eyes. “I apologize for my outburst.”
Steak and potato wedges on sticks? echoed Levi, a smile in his telepathic voice. That actually sounds pretty good.
“Do you remember the all-important order I gave you before sending you Harper’s way, Miss Thacker?”
She swallowed. “Yes.”
“What was it?”
Belinda met his gaze. “You told me to give her whatever she wants.”
“Then do it. Now I have somewhere I need to be…”
She straightened her blazer. “Thank you for your time, Mr Thorne,” she said stiffly.”
