It was inconceivable to him that Carnegie would flatly reject him in his time of need. Five years later, Carnegie got word that Scott had suffered a stroke and had gone to Europe to try and recuperate. Carnegie wrote to him, “All our miserable differences vanish in a moment. I only reproach”
