“Carlos began writing in his folder. “I have eight guys working with me and a project this size would take about eight weeks.”
“Eight weeks?” she shot back. “That seems an awfully long time.”
He raised his eyebrows and actually smiled. “Yes, but I guess a rookie like you wouldn’t know that.”
This time it was she who frowned back. “Smart-ass,” she mumbled and decided to ignore the dimple in his right cheek. She shouldn’t have encouraged smiling. It was definitely not working in her favor. He didn’t look at all like the nice, safe fellow she had wished for.”

“The man was dangerous to the senses. Her eyes feasted on his sculpted muscles, her ears listened to his laughter as he joked with his crew and her nose took in his aftershave. The only senses left were touching and tasting, and she tried her damnest to stay away from those.”

“She opened the door in her pajamas and judging by her hair, she’d just woken up, but hell, even in the morning the little pop-tart looked good. Her cheeks were rosy and her lips were plump and ready.”

“You also said you would call and you haven’t,” he pointed out.
She sighed and tilted her head. “I had a lot of stuff to figure out, Carlos. Are you gonna to be a baby about me not calling?”

“When a husband is asked that question by his wife, he should say because he is madly in love with her. He can’t imagine his life without her. She makes him laugh, she is smart, strong, caring, generous, loyal and whatever else is important.”

“I think I’ve had my fill of you for today,” she teased and watched him dress.”

“My plan was to stay in bed with you all day,” he said grinning, “but since we’re already up, we can hang out in front of the TV and be couch potatoes.”

“Damn, bella,” he said against her lips and his forehead came to rest against hers. “I don’t think this is a good idea. We should stop.”
She pulled her head back to frown at him. “The hell with stopping,” she said and wrapped her arms around his waist.”

“Did you find someone who makes you feel all those things?” she asked, not wanting to think of her own failed union.
He locked eyes with her. “I’ve found someone who is very special.”

“Carlos, what are you doing here?” she asked surprised.
He was standing before her in nothing but a blanket wrapped around his waist.
“Are you naked?” she asked shocked. She thought her eyes would pop out of her head.
“Don’t freak out, I’m not naked,” he assured and held the blanket in a tighter grip. “I’m wearing underwear.”
“Why are you in my house in the middle of the night in your underwear?” She couldn’t stop staring at every inch of his body. The spinning in her head was suddenly on overdrive. If she wasn’t still drunk, she’d jump his bones.
She drew in a sudden breath and her eyes got big. “Did we do it?” she got out in a whisper.”

“Her eyes blinked unfocused several times, then she leaned towards him. “You know what?”
He frowned at the sudden change in her tone of voice. “What?”
“You have really brown eyes.” She squinted as her face came closer.”

“Coincidentally, I also haven’t had sex for a year,” she said and his eyebrows shot up at the confession. Well, that explained a lot.”

“I bet this works just great in your favor,” she said bitterly and lowered her gaze to look at him. “You’re here just in time to pick up the broken pieces and put me back together again.”

“I’m confused.”
“About what?” He moved a strand of hair out of her face.
“About everything.”
“About me?”
“Especially about you,” she answered.
“I can help with that.”
She shook her head. “I don’t think you can.”
“Wanna bet?” With one hand he grabbed her by the nape of her neck. “Besame,” he ordered and when she didn’t kiss him, he pulled her to him and crushed her lips with his.”

“You’re not fine, bella. You’ve been crying,” he said and tipped up her chin.
“I have not,” she said indignantly but didn’t find the strength to pull out of his grasp.
“You’re a terrible liar,” he said with a smile. The back of his fingers ran along her cheek and she allowed the caress.”

“Carlos,” she said, her voice coming out breathless. The warmth of his body ran over her in sinful ripples.
“Yes, bella?” His own voice was raspy as he came closer.
She opened her mouth to say something but forgot whatever words had formed in her mind. Her gaze wandered to his full lips so close to hers.
“Is this what you call work?” she asked.
He smiled as he leaned forward to whisper in her ear. “If you want it to be.”

“He lowered his arm and started unbuttoning his shirt. “I don’t think so, bella. I think I’ll end up exactly where I need to be.” The shirt came off and his tan muscles flexed as he threw the shirt on the sofa next to her. She backed away as if the garment itself could be her undoing.
“What the hell are you doing?” she asked, unable to keep her eyes off him. The tattoo covering his right bicep trailed its way across his shoulder, onto his chest and down his right side.
“Getting to work,” he replied and walked towards her.”

“What goes on in my bedroom is none of your business,” she shot back in a threatening tone.
He leaned one forearm against the corner of the wall and fixed her with smoldering eyes. “It might not be my business, bella, but somebody should be keeping your sheets warm.”

“We’re getting distracted,” he said and stopped walking. “Let’s pick the tile and wrap this up so we can get back before the crew causes trouble.”
A look of concern crossed her face and he laughed. “Joking. Just a joke, bella.”
“Good,” she said relieved, “because if those guys mess up my house, Carlos, it’s your ass.”

“Hi, I’m Carlos,” he said and held out his hand. His usual white t-shirt was replaced by a tank top, thanks to the oppressing heat. Lessi couldn’t fault her sister for staring.”
