Moby Dick Retold For Kids Quotes Showing 1-1 of 1
“Long ago, in a town called Nantucket in the state of Massachusetts, there lived an old, eccentric sea captain named Ahab.  He was a captain of whale hunting ships.  He hunted a special kind of whale, an extremely large, absolutely gigantic species of whale, generally of a dark color, for its oil.  A year before the beginning of this story, Captain Ahab had been on a voyage during which he had lost his leg to a whale, a totally unique whale.  Even though this whale was of the generally dark species Ahab hunted, he was pure white!  As a result, he became known simply as “the White Whale”.  Another name he came to be known by was “Moby-Dick”.  Nobody knows who invented the latter name!  It just emerged, and was passed from storyteller to storyteller as the legend grew.”
