“Purity Culture’s Misstep Purity culture begins with a correct assumption: humanity is sinful. But at conversion, at the moment a person chooses to follow Christ, it quietly assumes nothing has actually changed. The believer is treated as though they remain corrupt at the core, still defined by their old nature rather than reborn into a new one. From there, purity culture devolves into legalism, a checklist system that tries to control behavior instead of cultivating transformation. The result is a destructive sin and shame cycle that has fueled countless deconstruction stories.”

They became disillusioned with their church experience because of asceticism and legalism. They could never measure up. No one could.”
