Mark- Everyman's Bible Commentary Quotes Showing 1-2 of 2
“Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (v. 34). Deny and take up are both in the aorist tense, suggesting definite decisions of self-denial and crucifixion with Christ (cf. Gal 2:20). But follow me is in the present tense of continuous action. Following Jesus is a lifelong assignment, lasting until death.”
Earle Ralph, Mark- Everyman's Bible Commentary: The Gospel of Action
“Someone has well said that the gospel is “not good advice but good news.” It is the glad tidings that what we could not do for ourselves Christ has done for us on the cross.”
