The overman is proposed as the hero of a nihilistic age. Like his forerunners, he bears his own standards of morality and reason and attempts to vanquish the hitherto reigning traditions and values.
Unlike his forerunners, the overman makes no claim to divine sanction for his deeds. He refuses to be armed by the gods, as was the boon claimed by the greatest heroes of the ancient poets.
