Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama Quotes Showing 1-13 of 13
“In this way practice the meditation that observes
How all outer and inner phenomena are no more
Than images projected by the distorted mind
Onto the according bases of imputation
Not even an atom inherently exists.

Thus become wise in how all things in both
Samsara and Nirvana are mere mental labels;
But how nonetheless they continue to function
By the unfailing laws of cause and effect.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“All the things that appear to the mind
Are merely paintings of names and thoughts;
Not even a speck of dust exists
From the side of the objects themselves.
Meditate again and again on this vision
Of emptiness, the final nature of being.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“The material things found in this world
Are hard to amass but easily lost;
And in the end, anyway, all is left behind.
Is it not wiser then to use what we get
In ways conducive to the benefit of the world?

In this dark age friends and patrons
Are hard to please and easy to anger;
Kindness is met with deceit, and eventually
All go their separate ways.
Is this not a sad world in which we live?

The people of this negative age
With duplicity and cunning pursue their goals
Of wealth, power, and material possessions.
If instead they dedicated all to spiritual ends.
They would be happier in both this life and the next.

Wasting time with people of solely vain concerns
Is empty of all meaning and hope,
Harming us both here and hereafter.
But dedicating ourselves to the guru and Three Jewels
Fulfills all hopes for now and forever.

Cyclic existence is like a fiery pit, and the sufferings
Of birth, sickness, age, and death fall like rain
To see this, and not strive for liberation:
What could be more foolish?

When illness befalls us we find it hard
To endure the pain for but a few days;
What then would we do if reborn in the hells?
It is important to avoid negativity
And cultivate the ways of goodness.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“Worldly friends are deceptive time-wasters,
Life like a flash of lightning in the sky,
And material things like bubbles on a stream;
Do not cling to them, Jampal Drak.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky, We fell them down and turn them into paper, That we may record our emptiness.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“One understands the meaning of undying, Ah,
The essential sound of wisdom,”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“Investigate, for example, a tree.
Just as "tree" is a mere mental label that is
Known as neither one with nor separate from its parts,
Like it's leaves and branches, similarly all things are
Mere imputation of names and mental labels
Nagarjuna and his disciples taught in this way.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“In fields of flowers gently swaying,
Young bees sing their happy songs
And pheasants strut a dance of joy.
The cuckoo too Rings the bell of melody
And the kalapingka bird chirps merrily along.

Here the earth maiden is beautiful indeed:
Her Virgin streams holding up garlands of bubbles
As they laughingly dance over rocks and crags;
Her orchards filled with all types of trees
Laden with fruit, flowers, and leaves;
And, standing behind, rings of snow mountains,
Their peaks bloused in white silken clouds,
Crystal glaciers their tassels
And blue forests their exquisite skirt.

Lapis lazuli meadows stretch below
Like the wings of a parrot in flight,
Nets of Lotus flowers embellishing then
And wild animals grazing quietly on their slopes
A fence of trees stands again behind
To lock out the Thief of every distraction.”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“Here near the bottom of the degenerate age
The forces of negativity and darkness prevail
Even Buddhas, boddhisatvas and Sages shy away
And pass silently away to the sphere of peace.

How can a simple little butter lamp
Placed in the face of a terrible storm
Ever hope to eliminate the darkness of night?”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“The vast majority of humanity today
Seems bereft of all common sense.
They lack the eye able to tell right from wrong
And stagger off the cliff falling to extremes.

Some, poisoned by the waters of jealousy,
Are obsessed with the thought of besting others;
While others, poisoned by hatred and hypocrisy,
Race around in a state of utter delirium.
And both claim to uphold the spiritual path!”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“The Greatest worldly accomplishment is impotent
For those who have not overcome the forces
Of karmic instincts and the delusions within”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“To ignite the wisdom fires of bliss and emptiness
And burn off the wood of seeming duality;
To cultivate the illusory body yoga locked in union
With the vision Of Clear light and voidness”
Glenn H. Mullin, Mystical Verses of a Mad Dalai Lama
“Here he uses the image of a sun (the masters) shining down from the Vast space of love and wisdom (their activities of body, speech and mind), to mature the minds of trainees (lotus flowers).”
