“While some may wish for hardship to pass them by, it is in hardship that we push ourselves. If a seed remained a seed, it would produce nothing. It is only by rupturing itself from the inside, through pushing itself through rock and soil toward the light, weathering storms and drought, that it finds its true purpose. And so, the same shall be with you.”
Kate Macintosh, The Champagne Letters: A Novel
“When things are bleak it is human nature to think it will always be thus, but that is not true. One must experience the dark to truly value the light. The stars are in the sky all day, but it is only at night that we can see and appreciate them. So, when things in your life seem bleak, look to the heavens. You cope with today and plan for tomorrow.

Strength isn't a fixed state. It is a series of choices in between moments of weakness. I would not chose to lie down and give up, which meant even though I had no idea how I would weather the storm ahead, I had to stand up and at least try. I wasn't foolish enough to think it wouldn't be hard, but every person must determine the price of their own worth. When you don't know how you will handle a situation, when it feels as if it will all be too much, then simply focus on doing the next right thing and go from that point.

Will's betrayal had been the worst thing I could have ever imagined. But, the one advantage of bad things happening is that you learn that you're stronger than you think.
What is the price of your own worth?

You just remember to not borrow tomorrow's fears today, as they will keep you from action. And when all seems darkest, reach toward those who are reaching out to you.”
Kate Macintosh, The Champagne Letters: A Novel
“With the impressionists I like to stand very, very close " Gabriel said, stopping his face barely an inch from the canvas. "The colors here are chaotic; it makes no sense. Then as you slowly move"-- he stepped back just a half step, and then another --"you can see the colors come together. No longer chaos, they work together; they become something greater. I think life is like this: in the moment, you can't make sense of it, but later, at the distance, it will all become clear.”
Kate Macintosh, The Champagne Letters: A Novel
