Camping with Kierkegaard Quotes Showing 1-2 of 2
“Settling is, for Kierkegaard, termed “leveling.” It is what happens when we no longer strive for meaning, but just settle for what “they” say. It is what occurs when we abandon the task of becoming and just “level” ourselves according to the standard of the “herd.” We hear the voice of the “crowd,” but at the cost of not learning silence from the lilies and the birds. Our cell phone never stops ringing and yet we never own up to the recursive hermeneutics of the call. We become sheep. Baaaaaaaa Baaaaaa. Sigh.”
J. Aaron Simmons, Camping with Kierkegaard: Faithfulness as a Way of Life
“We live forwards and understand backwards. Risk remains, but direction always matters.”
