Who Was Paul Revere? Quotes
Showing 1-1 of 1
“He was a joiner. He became a member of quite a few men’s groups. One held its meetings at the Green Dragon Tavern. Another met above a printing shop. The group was called the Long Room Club. Many men who became leaders of the American Revolution belonged to this club. A beer maker named Sam Adams was a member. So was John Hancock, who was one of the richest men in Boston. Most of the men had gone to Harvard, but they welcomed Paul. They admired his good sense and his energy. At meetings of the Long Room Club, there was a lot of angry talk about taxes. Colonists had no say in what taxes they had to pay. The government in England decided their taxes. Was that fair? Not in the minds of the Long Room Club members. It had to stop! TAVERNS BOSTON HAD LOTS OF TAVERNS.”
