“So stubborn, Lily. Now, say yes.”
“Yes.”
“Now, say please,” he grins.
“No,” I toss my head.
“So much fire, so much fight.” That finger trails down my centre again, leaving a blaze of destruction in its wake. “You will need it.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“I mean it, Lily. Sit on my lap, right now, or I will make you.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“He notices every flicker that every muscle makes, and he takes all of it in and reads my reaction so perfectly that it’s remarkable.
I adore it because he knows exactly how I’m feeling.
I loathe it because he knows exactly how I’m feeling.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“I gave you a choice Lily,” his words spit out of his mouth. “I still give you a choice. But you cannot escape fate.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Destiny isn’t fixed, Raegel, and I’m going to choose my fate.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“It’s not that I enjoy wallowing in self-pity, but quite frankly I’m well within my rights to have a moment.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“You’re two people, so perfect for each other that you’re two halves of the same soul. So perfect that you complete each other and are almost indivisible, bound to each other for eternity. An eternity during which you’ll experience the other’s joy and pain and hope and agony and devotion. The bond forms from love that’s so pure that even the gods weep at its beauty”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“You are drawn to me and I to you because this is sacred. We are as attracted to each other as if we are the very air we breathe, and that is the pull that we feel. You could wound me, betray me, maim me, and leave me for dead and I would still be drawn to you. I would still protect you. I would still be yours.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Surrender, Lily. Stop doubting this and trust it. Trust this.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Hunt him down, Matthew. Whatever it takes – hunt him like the vermin he is and do whatever you need to make him talk. But leave him alive at the end of it. I’ll kill him myself.”
“You will not.”
“I damn well will, Lily. He’s harmed you and I’ll have his life for it.”
I swallow and stare him down. “Find him and bring him here, Matthew. I don’t care what you do with him but leave him alive. I’ll decide what happens after you’re done with him.”
Shadows cross from Raegel’s face onto mine. “You can play with him all you want, love, but he’s not leaving here alive.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“He bit you?” asks Raegel, his anger filling the car as he demands that the driver go faster.
I nod, using the last of my energy. “I bit him first though.”
“You what?” Raegel’s concern is palpable and he’s holding me tightly enough that I know I’ll never get away.
“I had to make him drop me,” I mumble as my vision fades. “So I fucking bit him over Hyde Park.” I hear the three of them curse and everything else fades into an incoherent blur as I slip into unconsciousness.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“You can’t just leave here,” Van concludes. “And Raegel can’t just let you go. It would be better if you saw this for what it actually is.”
“And what’s that, Van?”
She grins and her sapphire eyes light with amusement. “One of those times the stars align and everything works out for everyone.”
I want to believe that that’s true, I really do. But I can’t quite bring myself to believe that it really is that easy, and my doubt comes out when I reply. “Isn’t that lucky for everyone involved?”
Van throws her head back and laughs. “Luck has everything to do with it.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Lily, it’s in my nature to be possessive. It’s the way fae are. Don’t expect me to change. Don’t expect me to let other males come near you. Don’t expect me to let anyone think about touching you. You are mine and that makes you untouchable.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“I didn’t agree to be yours.”

“You haven’t agreed not to be. You kissed me and that makes you mine unless you reject me. You haven’t, so you remain mine.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Never choose Riven over me again, Lily. I do not like it and I won’t tolerate it.”

I’m speechless. I’m not sure if I’m still breathing. And I’m barely standing up anymore. His wings wrap around me and hold me upright as his hands stroke my face.

“One last thing,” he smirks. “Pull anything like that ever again and I’ll spank you so hard that you can’t sit down for a week.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“You do exactly what I say when I say it and if you even think about trying anything stupid I will yank you off the ground so hard that you land in next week.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Fortune favours the brave, Riven – and we may as well start now. I need to know I’m right before we tell Raegel. I won’t try anything – think of it as a field trip.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“You do realise that you are being hunted?” he yells. “And you do not want them to take you alive.”
“Are you suggesting I should just kill myself now?”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“I need you to stay really still for me.”
His voice trembles just enough for me to hear it and his heartbeat quickens.
“You’re inside my wings and it’s a fae thing. Stay still for a bit, there’s a good girl.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“There’s a joke in there about the size of your wings and the size of something else but maybe now isn’t the time.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“No more escape attempts. No more being deliberately rude or irritating. No more kicking people in the groin,” Raegel adds.

I nod.
“No more drugging me and absolutely no dragging me around or locking me up.”

My hands have made their way onto my hips and we’re negotiating like an angry couple.

“I can’t promise not to knee someone in the groin. He had it coming.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“When are you going to stop being difficult?” he complains.
“When are you going to stop being an asshole?” I hiss back.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“I’m not sure if this is a war of attrition, but I’m not taking any chances and I’m determined to win it.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“It’s going just fine,” I deadpan. “I mean, you’re all completely mad but I’m sure you look the part when you put those frilly skirts on. Do the stick-on ears come as part of the costume or do you have to buy them separately?”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“You’re awake,” she says softly. “How’s the head?”
I plant my hands in my lap. “I’ve had worse.”
She grins back. “Yeah. How’s that hangover?”
“Replaced by the searing pain that’s left behind after someone sucker punches you.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Matthew stares at me and steps towards me, closing the distance until there’s hardly any space between us. I stare back as he lowers his head towards mine and neither of us blinks. It’s blatant intimidation and we both know it, but the thing is that I’m not going to cave. I’m not going to back down.
“Luck only gets you so far, Lily. It runs out after a while,” he smirks.
I thrust my knee into his groin as hard as I damn well can. He falls backwards and groans as he collapses to the floor. “I didn’t need luck for that, asshole.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“My survival instincts scream that it’s now or never. Get out now or get hurt, really hurt. And then killed, slowly and painfully. Get the hell out now.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Help yourself,” Raegel grins as he grabs several of the miniature strawberry tarts, presumably hoping to bribe me with cake. “These strawberry things are particularly good.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Look, fairies and Roman gods don’t exist, and even if they did then I’m not the long-lost daughter of Fortuna – and I am not going on some treasure hunt around London for some trinkets.”
C.J. Holmes, Isekai Veteran: Outlander
“Regret is what happens the morning after the night before. I regret going out for drinks after work. I regret not saying no to the third, fourth or any of the subsequent cocktails I enjoyed. I regret forgetting to cancel my alarm and I regret that I’m unable to call in sick to work. Most of all, I regret that I’d taken the promotion six months ago”
