The stories the players have from training camp are hilarious. The stories being from the 70's, these guys did some wild stuff, and I won't go into detail, but the coaches generally let it happen because the Raiders kept winning and winning. wide receivers used sticky glue to help grip the ball and make catches otherwise impossible without the glue. The season is about to begin, and it seems it may be a magical year.

The Raiders are just getting started on their winning frenzy in the 70's under Coach John Madden. Madden is trying to get Ken Stabler to become a good pocket quarterback and be able to run if needed. Al Davis has finally found a coach he can tolerate and that will communicate clearly with him about what is going on with the team. Things are looking up for the Raiders.

Al Davis (owner of the Raiders) was a very humble man from his roots and even went to Wittenberg in Ohio. He became a football genius coaching in the military and for the Los Angeles Chargers before coaching the Raiders and becoming the owner after successfully merging the AFL and the NFL.

This has been a good book so far. Very interesting because it features interviews from man players at the time, and I now know how one of the NFL greatest plays was a phony.
