It continues to surprise me how difficult it is to put down a book that outwardly looks as though it belongs in graduate study textbooks. The depth of research is astounding at every turn. Five paragraph sections prompt incredulous statements akin to “This section alone could warrant an entire novel!” Blink and you’ll miss the rise and fall of empires, presidents, and kings.
