It's quite slow-moving and I'm hoping things might quicken up soon, but the character of Lucy Snowe and her journey to France is intriguing and I want to know more about what happens to her. Plus, just like in Charlotte Brontë's 'Jane Eyre' (my favourite classic), the writing is beautiful and the descriptions are picturesque.

This is dragging on, but I'm hoping to finish it this weekend.

Still quite slow and hard to follow; there are flashes of excellence in some of the scenes (chapter 23 (Vashti) was quite Gothic and I enjoyed that), but overall this is no where near as good as Jane Eyre.

Overall it's still quite slow, and I don't feel like I'm connecting with the characters as much as I would have liked. But the last scene in the art gallery was pretty interesting, and the dialogue between Lucy Snowe and M. Paul Emanuel was somewhat humorous.
