He has gone to California and met up with the lone American whose daughter was purchased in Poland. He is down to the last woman on his list who is a cousin of Serena the woman he has always been in love with. He has recently broken up with his girlfriend. I have a feeling that no offspring will be discovered.

I just realized that I can't recall the protagonist's name. Well at least he has finally gotten the chance to bone Serena the woman of his dreams although she is a matron in her fifties. He is now telling the story of Portugal. Over a weekend at Serena's home he learned from her cousin that Damian and Serena wanted to marry.

Still a sad find but a better story. He found the third prospect had died back in 1985 from a drug overdose. Her newly ex husband who was and remained rich was able to keep most of the info out of the newspapers. He did a test on their only son and the boy was his but he too died from what appeared a mysterious illness probably cancer related.

Lordy, everyone he meets is a sad sack. He and his current aged girl are visiting a fellow writer and her blowhard husband who everyone hates. Of course they are invited to a grand home of which he is very familiar and the blowhard is shocked that he actually knows the people hosting the music and fireworks.

Two women tracked, one woman down. Thus far it is all depression about lost youth and unfulfilled potential. Although I love the writing he really does go out of his way to prove himself a wordsmith. He also repeats something he said earlier that doesn't need to be repeated - we get it the woman is now poor and sad.

Not much happens but the writing sparkles. Written in 2008 the narrator, also a writer, revisits 1968 after an old friend, now a foe, summons him to his last days living to ask him to find a child, now an adult, whom he believes he may have fathered. He wants to give his issue the bulk of his fortune which is great.
