This book so far has a Man vs. Nature conflict. The men, Professor Harwigg and his nephew, are against nature and the foreboding Mount Sneffels as they attempt to climb into the crater of the extinct volcano and discover the center of the universe. Along the way, they also travel across vast oceans and trek through plains and forests in order to even get to the mountain. They struggle to survive in the wild.
