Damn. this is a depressing book. I just finished "The Impact of Nazism", and am now staring the chapter that "The Impact opf Communism" that starts at the end of the Second World War. If Pryce-Jones is to be believed the feedback loop of shame-honor prevents Arab societies from evolving.

So far, Pryce-Jones is trying to explain the shame-honor system, and how it constraines behavior. Depressing.
