On Hammurabi's Code: "In the inscription, Hammurabi, called on 'all coming generations' to observe the laws and not to 'alter the law of the land which I have given.' ... The notion that rulers could not arbitrarily change the laws governing their citizens was a revolutionary concept. Respect for the rule of law remains one of the fundamental hallmarks of successful governments."

On Joyce's *Ulysses*: "Though Bloom seems unassuming and ordinary, he emerges as a heroic figure, displaying compassion, forgiveness, and generosity toward virtually everyone in the odd cast of characters he meets. In his mundane and often unnoticed deeds, he practices an everyday heroism that is perhaps the only heroism possible in the modern world."

Woo. Quarter of the way through the book... and quarter of the way through the year. Yikes.

Nevermind on trying to do pages with this book. It's just annoying enough to forego dealing with since the page count on here includes the Index and Image Credits. Thus, an inaccurate percentage of progress through the book would occur whether I put the actual page number or add the additional 12 counted end pages. It's too annoying when I'd rather just get back to reading... so percentages instead.
