Pretty evidently just part one of a trilogy. Would've been nicer to have a bit more climactic end, with everything more or less solved.

Jherek's misadventures in the modern world are some of the funniest I've ever read from Moorcock. Prime culture shock.

A dish best served cold. And it's not even for any real reason, it was all just a play for her. For all of them. Nothing is real, nothing is at risk, so why not turn all reality into a big roleplaying game?

Now that's more like it. Disgusting, potentially fatal, and nobody cares.

Also the end of the world and nobody cares about that either. In any other story the alien's grim reveal would have prompted panic and made itself the center of the whole story. Here, it was all barely a footnote. They barely even listened! Impressive!

The whole trilogy's been at my library at any time for me to pick up, but the premise always felt a little too weird for me. Now I'm finally ready.

It's not that weird.

Not nearly as chaotic or immoral as I thought it'd be, either. The worst thing we've seen so far is incest. I expect it'll get worse, though.
