Pennypacker has dealt with loss before and she knows how to describe it vividly in ways that have nothing to do with the actual emotion of grief. Just wow.

This vivid imagine made me feel things - "I suddenly remembered: Lord, I had loved those peaches. I used to sneak out in the middle of the night to pick them. I'd sprawl on the grass underneath those trees with fireflies flashing all around and katydids singing, a heap of peaches on my belly, and I'd eat them till the juice ran into my ears."

And now I'm crying again gahhhh animal stories make me weak. "He broke off a corner out of force of habit and was about to reach down with it when he remembered -- there was no fox under the table. He wondered if Pax was missing him as much as he missed his fox right now."

I couldn't even make it past chapter one without crying, so this is going to be rough...
