Kinda sounds like a sensory issue. This feels less like a spooky story and more like one big allegory for just mental illness.

Honey, I think he's well aware. I think this was a calculated move on his part.

What a gentleman.
Also, is the father PHYSICALLY abusive? Up until this point, I had only assumed it was mentally.

I'm glad that he didn't cave immediately. That he's not so love struck that he's become a yes man. It makes the relationship seem more feasible and less like two teenagers in their honeymoon phase.

I'd heard of covering mirrors. I think it's too keep the spirit from getting trapped in them, but the clock thing is new on me. Apparently, it's for basically the same reason. You start it again after their funeral.

"A lack of meaningful friendships in his life had led him to misinterpret his own emotions.."
That felt targeted. If you're going to come for me like that, at least call ahead.

Nothing sweeter than the let's run away together trope, especially when one partner is being forced to do something against their will or held captive. But the circus comment was a nice touch.

I'm weak, bro. I was already on that page of thought like 6 pages ago.
I feel so deeply for this character. The thought of being caged like that is terrifying. I could never be caged like that.

This is emotionally a little draining. The way that they're causing him to lose his appetite, to become despondent and lose his will. They're doing that! But they're going to use these things against him to say he's not getting better.
They're the sickness!!
Well, he's clairvoyant, but the depression is their fault, and they'll weaponize it against him. There's no outlet for that frustration.
