This is up to par with the standards of spellbinding minimalist beauty William Boyle set for himself with Gravesend, but I'm wondering sometimes: is Boyle only masquerading as a crime writer? Because time is clearly not the best element of his writing. It seems like he's at the door of a major breakthrough and maybe letting the idea of crime fiction go might be his golden ticket.
