It’s been said all over Instagram and TikTok. The book is far different from the stage play or the new movie. I do like did the stage play and movie simplified the story and obviously made it a little less dark, but I like darkness it has to it and gives you a lot of the back stories on beloved characters being on page 68 they’ve just introduced Galinda I like the childhood of Elphaba is so extensive and deep.

I have entered the final chapter of the book which is where the story of the Wizard of Oz picks up. I like that Maguire’s storytelling takes a diversion from the actual story of the Wizard of Oz. I like the idea that Elphaba hasn’t yet met Dorothy. The last couple chapters of the book kind of picked up really fast in the sense that we got to see the buildup to the end that we already know is coming.

I have made it through the Vinkus lands and I am up to when Elphaba visits home after discovering the fate of her sister Nessarose. Vinkus and Kiamo Ko are something we don’t see a lot of in the Musical so I am excited to see the different regions of Oz and how they are governed so differently then the diligent Oz. I am excited to finish the book and see how the story wraps up differently from the musical!!!

I have hit the “halfway point” where Elphaba has left Glinda and is now on her own! The twisted nature of Madame Morrible is quite interesting considering that she is always one step ahead of the group. The twist on the Wizard is intriguing as well. Him being mad with power and a tyrant actually shows the true nature that is not shown in the movie or truly deeply covered in the musical.

The introduction of the characters is really nice I like the sort of introduction to Elphabas life and then the lead into the Shiz years. There are stark differences to the stage play and the movie but the differences make the book way more interesting!!!! The changes made to the story for the musical really are beneficial considering they would not have translated in the same manner!!!
