If I had to interview a character in this book it would be Paul DePodesta. He is the assistant of the general manager of the Oakland A's. He is very interesting and has an economics degree from Harvard. I would ask him why he has an interest in baseball. Paul uses his economic skills to look at players based on the on base percentage because the A's can't afford big name players.

The A's are losing their 3 best players because they are such a low value market team, so they have find value in players that no one else sees. They get a pitcher who throws funny, and a batter that can't throw, Scott Hatteberg. The A's with the worst record, but turn into being tied with the Yankees for the best record. Along with a Scott Hatteberg GW home run, they set a record for most consecutive games won.

My favorite book that I read this year was Down the Fairway. This was a biography about the famous golfer Bobby Jones. It was may favorite book because it was interesting to read about his life and how he became so good, but also it helped me with my game and using some of his tricks here and there. I loved how he included so much detail of his life, it felt like you were there with him while he was golfing.

This book is similar to Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. On the surface it may not seem like the same, but if you dig deeper you will see that they are similar. The Oakland Athletics and other low payroll teams represent the black community who aren't treated fairly, and until many low payroll teams win the World Series or blacks make a difference The result will stay the same in baseball and in life.
