I am not ready to finish this story; I need another 600 pages.

“I don’t know where Henry was. Probably looking at the moon and reciting some poem from the T’ang Dynasty” pfft, this is so Henry. I cracked up visualizing it in my head, him with sparkly eyes and all.

The cracks are getting bigger. There’s something fishy going on with Charles, Camilla, and Henry, and it annoys me that I can’t quite put my finger on it.

The Corcoran kids are so funny! They’re the comedic relief I need to escape this book’s heaviness. Also, I’m empathizing with Richard so bad that every time the thing between Henry and Camilla is implied, I feel hurt for him.

Henry is just like Julian; that’s why he picked up on his excitement. My gosh, at least try to hide it, guys😂 I get it though —stuff like this seems exciting and theatrical when it’s not happening to you. It’s like crime documentaries; it’s not that you wish people harm, but when it happens, you feel a mix of curiosity and strange excitement.

“There was a strange dreamy look on his face. There was something about the operatic sweep of search which could not fail to appeal to him and that he was pleased. Henry saw it too, ‘Like something from Tolstoy, isn’t it?’ he remarked. Julian looked over his shoulder, and I was startled to see that there was real delight on his face. ‘Yes,’ he said. ‘Isn’t it, thought?’ “

Y’all Richard and Francis finally had a moment!! I never thought this ship of mine would ever sail!

It feels so good to have a lot of the mysteries uncovered, but I’m so unsettled by the truth.

“I felt the old familiar cold twist through my bones again and then it was all forgotten, the warmth, the lights; I had never been warm in my life” This book is unbearably suspenseful AND heartbreaking; the deadliest combination. I’m enjoying every second of the experience though.
