Changez talks about the difference between the behaviour of people in America to the people in Pakistan. He tried to have intimate moments with Erica but it is difficult as she is scared to. Later, he was in Manila, Philippines and saw on the television that the attacks on the Twin Towers happened and he got very worried about Erica. He flew back to New York, in fear that she is hurt.

Changez, a Pakistani man, went to Princeton and was at the top of his class. He was interviewed by a man from Underwood Samson and is taken back by the personal questions he asks him, regarding his religion and nationality. None the less, he gets the job and starts working with them. Throughout the story he talks about his past experiences and the 9/11 attacks connecting to his background.
