The book starts off with the king, Endon, and Jarred, his friend. The novel goes through the their favorite activities and partway through their teen years. It also talks about a powerful item, that belt contains magical jems from certain tribes. It is now a tradition for the day a person becomes king, puts it on. Later on, Jarred helps the king to be, Endon, prepare for this day, and soon, that day comes.

If I had the opportunity to interview any character, it would be Lief. The main question I would ask him is how he goes about his daily life. I would ask this because the author does not go into too much depth about his background. He would most likely say in return that he helps the beggar near his house, and helps his parents around the house due to the lack of education the kingdom provides its subjects.
