I already like Annique but now I think I'm in love.

I don't understand why she feels the need to be loyal to the French service anymore. They're all such horrible people.

"Have I told you I love you, Annique? It started about the fourth time you tried to maim me. I never did find time to say the words."

I think the fact that this is 3rd person omniscient is really helping me enjoy this book. Normally the whole back-and-forth due to the two main characters being enemies gets annoying, but because I'm not actually in their heads it's not bothering me as much as it normally does. I'm also not dreading the whole "Surprise! I'm not who you think I am," moment; I'm actually looking forward to it.

"I remember what we have done together. I am almost sure it was not decent." But she let him comb her hair back with his fingers and tuck a blanket around her and arrange her at ease along the seat. "I will decide what to do about it when I am awake. Perhaps I will try to strangle you once more. Though you have the most beautiful body imaginable. Like a large animal."

I really hope I don't have to hear about how "this is an English thing, this is a French thing" for much longer. I get it. She's French. He's English. They're different. Move on.

Goddamn. I do not remember that part.
I'm telling you, this is early dementia and you, my friends on Goodreads, will be the first marking post when I go back to try and trace when it all began. I have NO memory of her being blind. Ah well. Try and love me while I'm still here to love. Soon, I'll be just be an empty husk, pissing in people's refrigerators, trying to flush the vegetable bin.
Dude, that's incredibly bizarre. It's a defining characteristic and it's why (view spoiler)It's only been 5 months since you read this!
Yeah, I remember that they travel together to London because she doesn't recognise him, and I also remember thinking how implausible it was how she regained her sight. Oh wait, that's right, I also just remembered the opening scenes of the book where he realises she's blind. Whew. Those five neurons guarding that memory haven't died.
Who are you, again?
Who are you, again?
LOL! That's so funny. I remember you complaining about that Moss.I think she would've recognized his smell or something.
(view spoiler)And just so you guys know, I haven't finished yet! So no spoilers past the 200 page point.
I had no problems with the plausibility of any of it. Well, accept for (view spoiler) but I easily forgave that bit.I remember people being disgusted by Grey's actions the whole way through but I thought it was perfectly reasonable considering his job IS a huge priority. It's not like he was happy about it or anything.
Annique's reversal in condition seemed plausible but also very common to HRs. Joanna Bourne could have also left her that way (view spoiler) and still have continued to write a very good story. Annique kicks ass no matter what her circumstance.
