Wait, what? She said earlier in the book that her friend knows sign language, and now she's suddenly shocked to discover that her friend knows sign language?

I want to like this book, but the MC is so unlikable so far. Crossing my fingers that she'll get more mature after she dies and comes back. Seems like the kind of thing that would mature a person.
