When Netgalley sends you a preapproved ARC even though you've been too busy to read for a whole year: oh hell yeah

Haha true, and it doesn't hurt that I liked the first book in the series a lot :) Early Christmas!

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) oh wow, congrats! Well too bad about the too busy for reading, it happens and all the best!

Brok3n I am tempted to return to NetGalley...

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) I did, over this, they made me change my password. Crossing fingers but I am not hopeful, not being located in the USA/Canada is a big thing for american publishers (all the books they do not even show me to request). I think there are also weird business vibes where all publishers do not want people in non english language european books to read books in english because it erodes the local translation market (who never really cared about the consumer or had any commitment to their market).

CC @L they tempted me to return to goodreads for sure, lol.

@Hirondelle I never thought about the translation market that way. Really good point! It's kind of unfortunate that your location should even matter, considering they never send physical copies anyway...

Pretty sure the only reason I got this was because I requested the last one though. But hey, good incentive to get myself back to reading again (and see all the old friends on here who I failed to talk to for so long!)

Hirondelle (not getting notifications) I got it also! Wow! Yes! Thanks for the tip! We will read it at the same time I guess.

And yeah, it has been on local news here a lot, tiktok was a boon for publishers here but it is also meaning more people read imported books and there is a lot of protectionism they want to hold on to or extend!
